Welcome to the Virtual

Fluorescent Display

To see a quick demonstration of what you will see when you visit us at the Show, click on the RED button at the bottom of the display case (below) to turn off the lights and turn on the UV lights. The specimens will fluoresce (glow) different colors because of the ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

When you are done viewing the specimens under the UV lights,
click on the red button again to turn the lights back on.

Typically each mineral will flouresce best in one of three different wavelengths of UV radiation: longwave, shortwave, and midwave. All wavelengths are featured in our displays.

Each year we feature about six showcases of fluorescent mineral specimins from around the world. These are on loan from our members and members of the Bay Area Fluorescent Society.
